(NAM) is a professional organization of executives of state, regional, national and international newspaper associations headquartered in the United States and Canada. NAM fosters communication and the sharing of ideas and information among its members for the benefit of the newspaper associations managed by NAM members.

Maassen elected NAM president
The executive director of the Missouri Press Association was elected president of Newspaper Association Managers, Inc. (NAM), during the group's 100th Annual Summer Conference Aug. 4 in Denver, the city where the organization was founded in 1923.
Mark Maassen will serve a one-year term as president of NAM. A journalism graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, Maassen spent three decades in sales and management at the Kansas City Star before joining Missouri Press as chief executive in 2015.
Also elected to officer positions were Vice President Brian Allfrey, executive director of the Utah Press Association, and Secretary Phil Lucey, executive director of the North Carolina Press Association. Emily Bradbury, executive director of the Kansas Press Association, was elected to serve a three-year term on the board.
Laurie Hieb, executive director of the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association, becomes immediate past president. Continuing director is Ashley Wimberley, executive director of the Arkansas Press Association. Past President Layne Bruce, executive director of the Mississippi Press Association, serves as the organization's clerk.
Celebrating its centennial year in 2023, NAM is a consortium of state, provincial, and national trade groups representing the newspaper media industry in the United States and Canada.
Maassen
Hunter named GPA executive
Jaillene Hunter has succeeded Robin Rhodes as executive director of Georgia Press Association (GPA). Hunter assumed the role in December. Rhodes will continue working through a transition period and will continue to represent GPA at the state legislature on issues important to the newspaper industry.
Hunter joins GPA after a career working in communications at the state and federal government levels. She was press secretary for Rep. Max Burns and Rep. Dave Weldon in Washington, D.C., and then served as communications director for Georgia Lieutenant Gov. Casey Cagle, working on issues such as transportation, economic development, government spending, health care and education. Since then she has worked on communications strategies and initiatives for state government, small businesses, legislative initiatives and nonprofits.
Hunter has been a member of the Marietta City Schools Board of Education since November 2021 and is the board’s legislative liaison. She is a board member of Marietta’s Mentoring for Leadership and Wellstar Kennestone Hospital’s Regional Health Board. Earlier this year, Lt. Gov. Burt Jones appointed Hunter to a term on the Georgia Council on Literacy.
Hunter has long been familiar with Georgia Press Association and wanted to be part of an industry she views as critical to the state’s success. “I have admired GPA for many years — and even participated in conventions when I was working for the lieutenant governor,” she said. “The work our local papers do to inform the public is essential and one of the most important functions of government.”
“I am a people person and look most forward to getting to know each GPA member,” she added. “It is my hope that folks find me approachable, and I absolutely welcome all feedback and input from members — please reach out anytime.”
